I have had really good and not so good years in the last 11 years of doing this, but in all honesty, I count the bad years as good years now.
Because of Jesus.
Because even though some years weren't my best years, I look back and see how he provided for EVERYTHING I needed. I didn't get everything I wanted, but every need? Met.
So those not so great years. They're not fun to look at on paper, but I look at them and I see his goodness written alllll over them.
He hasn't promised wealth and riches to me. But he has promised to be with me, to never leave me and to provide for my needs.
A few verses I've clung to over the years:
"I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread" - psalm 37:25 ESV
"Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you."- hebrews 13:5 ESV
"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these." - Matthew 6:25-34 ESV
When I read these verses and many more in scripture, I realize over and over again that I have nothing to worry about.
Put your trust in him, friend. He's got you and he knows what you need.
